2018 Quarter 2 Stats
Quarter 2 of 2018 is gone and so is half of the year. Time flies! This will be a long post with a lot of quantity number breakdowns, including full lists of every mold that I sold.
I’m not a large shop such as DGC or Infinite. They carry more inventory at any given time than my total yearly sales, but I sold about 20K discs in 2017, so it’s a decent market view, I feel.
Companies that I carried in Q2 of 2018 are as follows: MVP, Axiom, Streamline, Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, Westside, Discmania, Innova, Discraft, Prodigy, Kastaplast, Mint Discs, Millennium, Hyzer Bomb.
Millennium and Hyzer Bomb are now gone from my shelves, except for a few remaining Mortars. I will not be reordering any discs from them in the foreseeable future. Any Millennium numbers for this quarter are because I sold my remaining inventory at cost to get rid of them.
For Quarter 2, I shipped to 47 states and 7 different countries.
DISTANCE DRIVERS
I categorized anything speed 10 and above as a distance driver, based on each company’s numbers. Of course there will be border line discs that don’t use the four number flight system, but this is the way that I did it. Some MVP/Axiom discs may get shuffled in or out of the distance and fairway categories for Qtr.3 due to them releasing their own flight numbers for their discs.

As expected, the Destroyer regains the number 1 spot. Last quarter, the Trace stole the top spot based on the huge Plasma plastic release, but it settled back down to normal levels in the second quarter. Nothing on this list is very surprising to me. Innova holds 5 of the top 10 spots, while MVP/Axiom/Streamline holds 9 of the top 20 spots. The non-sellers, marked “Zero”, this quarter are also not a surprise. None of them have been good sellers in the past.

We definitely see some familiar faces in the top 10. Innova takes the number one spot with the Teebird. The birds have been flying off the shelves this quarter. Other than the big launch of the Streamline Drift up at number 4, I’m not seeing any surprises, really, except for maybe all of Prodigy’s F-Series discs were complete non-sellers this quarter.

The HUGE news this quarter was the release of the MVP Deflector. It launched on the 29th of June, so, in just 2 days, it became the top selling midrange of the whole quarter. The Deflector is the hottest selling disc that I’ve ever had. For one and two day sales, The EMac Truth used to hold that spot, but the Deflector blew it out of the water. We’ll see how well it holds up over time now that everyone has one. The Mortar is beefed up to the top of the charts due to the 1.5 Big Jerm release. The new Westside Anvil is making a decent run on the charts too. Again, not a lot of surprises at the bottom of the list.

The putter category was dominated by the Axiom Envy again, as it has for a while now. The Atom saw a nice bump up the charts with the Neutron release and Heart of Chains special editions. The rest of the list is pretty common with no surprises.

Well, Innova dominates yet another quarter. It’s expected, though, because they offer so many more molds. MVP jumped up to the number 2 spot. DD and Lat64 would’ve been within 1% of MVP if it wasn’t for the huge Deflector launch. Discraft saw a little bump up this quarter, and will hopefully continue that trend after I place another order this month. The big one, I think, is Discmania only accounting for less than 4% of overall sales. There is a horrible reason for this. Discmania has been out of stock on literally 25 different mold/plastic combinations for a very long time. They do not ever have anything in stock that I can order. It’s getting a little out of control. Prodigy went down a little bit, Streamline offers 3 discs and holds steady. Kastaplast slipped down this quarter. Millennium/HyzerBomb will not exist in this store any more. Mint discs rounds out the list on the bottom, as expected, because they have 1 disc!
Number of Molds vs. Percent of Sales
In theory, if you offer more molds, you should have higher sales. Let’s see how that panned out this quarter.

We can see that the amount of molds offered may not correlate well with total discs sold. Some are close, but some are a ways apart. This stat is pretty important to me to see what’s hot and what’s not. I know there are molds that I shouldn’t even carry, but I’ve always wanted to have a couple of everything in stock. I really need to go through some of the bigger discrepancies and see which molds I can kill from the line up. That would free up more shelf space lol.
Combined Companies
One last pointless stat that I think is fun to look at is combining companies into who molds them or their fan bases. Like I said, this is a pointless stat, but still interesting to stats people.
